Anyway enough of me ranting about the city, I was pleased to receive this from an auction house today...not mint but a very rare european away fixture against Torpedo Moscow in 1968.
Not saying much about todays match, Im getting use to us under performing now and am wishing for the season to be over as I really dont want to see the city in the playoffs...We simply arent strong enough nor are we capable of challenging the other teams in the playoffs.

Finally managed to get round to updating the site, have now added all homes available up to the early 60s - Enjoy !
To start I am going to keep this blog quite short and please note that it is nothing personal against the
players...The only reason this blog is going to be short is that I’ve been up since 5am done a 10 hour shift (note no afternoon sleep like the players) and am up at 5am again in the morning for another 10 hour shift. Tonight....well what can I say, I have less pain passing gallstones then what I had to watch tonight and trust me I should know they are bloody painful!! For the life of me I cant for one minute think why we should continue with the 4-5-1 formation. We have stopped passing, weve stopped moving and basically we just hoof the ball up the field for poor old Kenny Miller to be beaten by a 6’4 defender each time. The team looks tired and a lack of squad rotation is costing us big time...If any of the city players actually read this when I tweet this blog please answer me one thing. Is the team tired from the constant shouting of “press press” from the touchline ?. Trust me after playing and watching football for near on 25 years, 90 mins of “press” certainly seems to be taking it toll on the team. I could rant on all night about the performance and even though tonight rates along side with the 7-2 cambridge home defeat in the mid 90s there just no point. A few things that would be amazing by sunday 1). We lose the 4-5-1 2). We get a tall loan striker in, god knows kenny needs a big man next to him 3). We stop singing that bloody god awful "its going to be alright"...hate to say but since we have been playing this song things certainly have far from been "alright" !! After last weeks match I felt proud driving back down the M4, today I wish id not bothered going....a tired performance from most of the players and a team that really needs the injection of some loan players. Unfortunately I can not see any coming in now and we can only hope that we sneak into the playoffs.
Anyway enough of the depressing performance I watched today heres a few photos from the Carling Cup Final 2012...Enjoy !! I was in the prawn sandwich seats for the Gary Speed Wales memorial match, it was an excellent and moving evening despite the result.
By being in corporate I was lucky enough to be rubbing shoulders with the past greats like Shearer, Giggs, Mark Hughes, Vieira and many more...It was really a great evening and was able to get a few photos and autographs ! Well in programme terms I had a total bargain from Bonhams of Chester yesterday. Having seeing both the Hamburg and a very rare Torpedo Moscow programme come up for auction I braced myself for a very expensive afternoon. The phonecall came and with the estimate at £150-£200 I expected the lot to fly, I almost fell off my chair when I heard "lets start the bidding at £50!!! The bidding did not go up much further from that and with commission I won both items for £100. Not a bad afternoon considering the Torpedo programme sold for £870 on its own on ebay last year....As the saying goes you win some you lose some...thankfully I was the winner !! There will be no further updates to the site now until I return from London for the Carling Cup Final, common city lets win it and get back to europe !!!! Blueeebirds!!
This evening was a reunion of the Cardiff City v Leeds United Fa Cup match played in 2002 which some would say started the downfall of Leeds United. We were blessed with four legends this evening from that game, Scott Young, Graham Kavanagh, Andy Legg and current favourite Robert Earnshaw. The evening started off with a quiz consisting of general knowledge about the city, a section on the Cardiff v Leeds game and a guess the photo section. Luckily our table won and obtained 43 out of 48, with that winning score we all had a photo taken with the players which we were all able to get it signed. After the quiz there was a discussion with the four talking about the match and about there experiences before and after the match...Some good and bad for kav with scoring the first goal and then when returning to his car after the game to find a brick through his windscreen. Not intentional im sure but the sign of the times that the club were in with violence some ten years ago, thankfully we hardly ever see any violence at the city anymore.
The evening then went onto a questions and answers sections from the audience which most of the answers from the players had us in stiches. The highlight would have to of been earnie and kav doing impressions of sam when earnie was spraying sam in his eyes with champagne after the match, priceless with sam saying stop spraying it in my f**king eyes whilst live on sky sports. !! The evening then was finished off with photos and autographs with the players, a great evening had by all - well done the trust for arranging it and for rob phillips for presenting it. I did tweet chops in the week and asked him to leave his shooting boots at home, didnt listen to me obviously !!!
Bad defeat for the city today, questions to be raised as why we went back to a 4 5 1 after the 4 4 2 worked so well on tuesday night but there you go !! Can't wait to get the Carling Cup Final out of the way to be honest, at least we will be able to concentrate on the league then. Will this Final be the downfall of our season though as we've not played very well at all since the semi final of the cup against palace. A great win for the city in midweek and to be honest if it wasn't for Joe Lewis it could of been at least 6-1, a great goalkeeping display from him.
As promised aswell the programme for the up and coming Carling Cup Final, I can't wait for the match now and even if we do get defeated against Liverpool its the experience of being in the Final that counts. Who would of thought in the dark days of watching the City that we would be in a FA Cup Final and a Carling Cup Final within five years of each other !!! Well, who would of thought it - Cardiff City in the Carling Cup Final....Ok on paper we may not have a hope against the mighty Liverpool, but we will give them a good go !!!
Just to get there in the first instance is an achievement in itself especially with the change of management and all the players that have left the club this past summer. Naturally ill have a photo of the programme up on the site soon !! Bluebiirds !! |
